Flyer for a Natural Science and Mathematics Colloquium at St. Mary’s College featuring Dr. John Grady, presenting on cold ocean predators, March 25th, 2022, at 4:45 PM, Schaefer Hall 106.

Join us for another Natural Science and Mathematics Colloquium talk of the spring semester!

Wednesday, March 25th 2026
Schaefer Hall 106 @ 4:45 p.m.

Dr. John Grady will give his seminar titled: "Cold Oceans, Warm Predators: Temperature and the Geography of Vertebrate Diversity"

Why do warm-blooded marine predators thrive in cold oceans while other vertebrates reach peak diversity in the tropics? In this talk, Dr. Grady explores how physiology and ecological interactions between warm- and cold-blooded animals shape global patterns of biodiversity across sea and land. Drawing on global biodiversity datasets and laboratory predation experiments, he presents predictions for how warming oceans will tip the balance between warm- and cold-blooded vertebrates.

This event is free and open to the public. It is meant for a general audience. If you are an instructor, please announce it to your students.
