Fundraising & Communications Intern with the St. Mary's River Watershed Association

Are you passionate about the environment, storytelling, and event planning? Join the St. Mary’s River Watershed Association (SMRWA) and gain hands-on experience supporting conservation efforts that protect and restore our local waterways.

This intern will play a key role in planning and executing SMRWA’s annual spring fundraiser, A River Affair. The position offers valuable experience in event management, marketing, nonprofit communications, and environmental advocacy.

🌟What you'll do:

Event Planning & Promotion

  • Design a webpage promoting A River Affair
  • Write clear volunteer instructions and assist with volunteer coordination
  • Craft persuasive promotions for auction items
  • Assist with overall event marketing and communications

Communications & Outreach

  • Draft engaging social media posts highlighting SMRWA’s work
  • Write at least one newsletter about SMRWA initiatives
  • Create an auction booklet featuring compelling item descriptions
  • Produce an additional newsletter highlighting internship activities

Deliverables:

  • At least one newsletter about SMRWA’s work
  • At least seven social media posts
  • A professionally written auction booklet
  • At least one newsletter focused on fundraiser activities 

Daily responsibilities:

  • Arrive on time and ready to contribute
  • Write effective communications and advertisements
  • Assist with additional organizational activities as needed

Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Understanding of issues affecting the Chesapeake Bay watershed
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Passion for environmental conservation
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to swim and lift at least 40 lbs
