Christopher Adams is an assistant principal at Chopticon High School in Chaptico, Maryland and an adjunct math professor at SMCM. After completing his Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in 2012, Adams began his teaching career with St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) in 2013 as a math teacher at Esperanza Middle School. Adams also taught math at Great Mills High School and taught one year in Charles County at North Point High School. Adams served SMCPS as an Instructional Resource Teacher (IRT) from 2022 until promoted to his current administrative role in July 2025.

“I'm excited to be in my new role. I graduated from Chopticon in 2007, so it's rewarding to go back and have the opportunity to serve the community that taught me so much,” he said. Adams said he is appreciative of the time he spent in the MAT program and the way that it prepared him to be an instructional leader.

“Going through the MAT with the professors and cohort that I had helped provide me with the capacity and confidence to progress in my career and develop as an educator,” he said.
