The River Runner - the College's new 46-passenger motorcoach - had its first trial run with passengers from the campus community testing the shopping shuttle route to California, Maryland on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
The River Runner will make twice-weekly shuttles for students into St. Mary's County for shopping, dining, entertainment and other student needs. In addition to commercial and shopping areas in California, a route to Leonardtown is also planned. There will also be a shuttle to and from the Washington, DC and Baltimore areas for College breaks, with the first planned for this Thanksgiving.
"The River Runner will help us fill a demonstrated student transportation need," said Jerri Howland, PhD, vice president of student affairs. "The College's partnership with the Student Government Association (SGA) to acquire this valuable new resource will benefit many students for years to come." Howland added that future plans include additional Friday-Sunday shuttles to DC/Baltimore and possible day trips for cultural events and other needs in the community.
Envisioned under the College's Rising Tide strategic plan, the motorcoach was purchased by the College with support from the SGA.
