Professor of Biochemistry Pam Mertz, gave a presentation on April 28 for Schrödinger’s Education Week, “Teaching Biomolecular Visualization in a Biochemistry Lab Course: From PyMOL Training with an OER to Modeling Phosphomimetic Mutants of Malate Dehydrogenase.” Schrödinger’s Education Week is a virtual event that connects educators from all over the world to discuss educational technology in the classroom and integrate computational molecular modeling into science curricula. Mertz introduced an Open Educational Resource that she co-authored with members of the BioMolViz community and described how she uses it in a Biochemistry I lab course to train students on how to create protein images using PyMOL, a molecular visualization program.
