Associate Professor Andrew Cognard-Black (sociology) and Emily Cerna '16 (sociology, biology) and Somya Sharma-Holt '23 (sociology, ILC-Spanish) attended the American Sociological Association social policy summit, "Meeting the Moment: How Sociological Research Can Inform Public Policy," at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Center in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 21.

Featuring conversations with Louise Seamster, Ph.D. (former Brookings Institution Fellow) and Beth Pearson, Ph.D. (former AAAS Science and Technology Fellow) about their work on Capitol Hill developing plans on student loan forgiveness, the summit brought together scholars, nonprofit leaders and policymakers to discuss the crucial role that sociology can play in shaping public policy.
