Antonio Ugues Jr., PhD, associate professor of political science and director of the Center for the Study of Democracy, was recently appointed to the Maryland 250 Commission by Maryland Governor Wes Moore.

The Maryland 250 Commission was created by executive order to serve as Maryland's official liaison with the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission and to coordinate efforts within Maryland to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America on July 4, 2026. The Commission will focus on Maryland's role in America's 250 years and beyond.
