Assistant Professor of Neurobiology Daniel Tobiansky, PhD (Biology and Neuroscience), was recently accepted to take part in the UC San Diego's  Leading the Advancement of Underrepresented Neuroscientists for Change (LAUNCH) program. This is one of three programs funded by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NIH-NINDS) to "provide strong mentorship, professional development, and research training to improve the long-term success of early career faculty and transitioning postdoctoral scholars from groups underrepresented in the biomedical workforce, including women, persons with disabilities, underrepresented racial/ethnic minorities, and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds."

Professor Tobianksy is a first-generation Venezuelan, holds dual citizenship (Venezuela and USA), and has previously been heavily involved in external diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs such as Broadening Representation of Academics In NeuroScience (BRAINS, 2019) and Future Leaders Advancing Research in Endocrinology (FLARE, 2015; Endocrine Society). This opportunity will help prepare him to support DEI initiatives on campus and advance underrepresented neuroscience majors.
