Professor of Biochemistry Pamela Mertz helped lead a series of virtual multi-day workshops in May and June for BioMolViz, an NSF-funded project (NSF IUSE #1712268 and RCN-UBE #1920270) that focuses on developing resources to improve the pedagogy of biomolecular visualization. In May, she served as a leader for a two-day virtual workshop that helped participants learn PyMOL, a molecular visualization program. In June, she served as a leader of a three-day virtual workshop where participants worked in teams to write and peer-review visualization assessments.
Mertz serves on the steering committee for BioMolViz and was recognized in 2021 as a BioMolViz Fellow. A central goal of the project is to create a repository of validated assessments that educators can use to evaluate students’ visual literacy. Learn more about BioMolViz here: https://biomolviz.org
