Dear Seahawks, Faculty and Staff,
We, the Board of Trustees of St. Mary’s College Maryland, wish to join President Jordan in expressing our anger and sadness at the recent killings of unarmed black men and women. Racism has no place in our country, our State, or our community. Racial oppression diminishes us as a society. Yet longstanding racial injustice persists in our country. It is time for it to end.
As a Board we witness every day how our diversity strengthens our college and our community. We are our best selves when all individuals are valued and respected for whom they are, not for the color of their skin.
In these times of deep anguish and uncertainty, it is important that we join together in support of justice and change. We embrace the values enshrined in the St. Mary’s Way as the road map for our own college community. And, as President Jordan made clear, we are committed to rolling up our sleeves and working together to compel our nation to be better.
Sincerely,
Board of Trustees, St. Mary’s College of Maryland
