St. Mary’s College of Maryland, the National Public Honors College, is one of the nation's most environmentally responsible colleges, according to The Princeton Review®.

The education services company features St. Mary’s College in its just-published free resource, The Princeton Review's Guide to Green Colleges: 2019 Edition. The guide can be accessed at www.princetonreview.com/green-guide.

St. Mary’s College also earned a coveted spot on The Princeton Review's "Top 50 Green Colleges" ranking list in the guide, coming in at #5 on the list. The Princeton Review used data from its institutional survey of college administrators and its surveys of students at the colleges to tally the ranking list.

The profiles in The Princeton Review's Guide to Green Colleges provide information about admission requirements, cost and financial aid, and student body demographics. They also include "Green Facts" about the schools, with details on such matters as the availability of transportation alternatives at the schools and the percentage of the school food budgets spent on local/organic food.

According to the guide, “St. Mary’s College of Maryland, in cozy St. Mary’s City,” is itself “like a small town in that everyone knows everyone” and “the minute you step on this campus, you’re a part of the family.” Students boast that the school is “a place to grow as a person and become part of a lifelong family.” Students enjoy classes that are always “challenging but never impossible” taught by professors who “get to know you personally” and “take an interest in your future.”

St. Mary’s College has recently received several accolades: Ranked fifth best public liberal arts college in U.S. News & World Report’s “2020 Best Colleges,” ranked #1 in lowest average student loan debt among public institutions in the state of Maryland (class of 2018) by LendEDU, listed as a Hidden Gem by CollegeRaptor.com, included in The Princeton Review’s “Best 385 Colleges” Guide for 2020, 2020 Fiske Guide to Colleges, 2019 Best College Value by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, 2019-20 College of Distinction, 2018 Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, and as an Individual Conference Champion in the 2018-19 College and University Green Power Challenge by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
