In a special presentation on Friday, October 26, St. Mary’s College of Maryland Board of Trustees recognized the following faculty promotions:
Promotion to Full Professor:
Adriana Brodsky (history) joined the St. Mary’s College faculty in 2005. She teaches courses in Jewish history, Latin American history, immigration/diaspora, and gender history. This fall, she is a Fulbright Senior Scholar conducting research in Israel for a book she is writing, “Navigating Multiple Diasporas: Argentine Sephardi Youth at Home and in Israel, 1948-1976.” She is the author of “Sephardi, Jewish, Argentine: Community and National Identity, 1880-1960” (Indiana Univ. Press, 2016) and was editor of “The New Jewish Argentina” (Brill Academic Publishing, 2012), which won the Latin American Jewish Studies Association’s Best Book Award in 2013. Brodsky holds a PhD from Duke University.
Joe Lucchesi (art history) joined the St. Mary’s College faculty in 2000. He teaches classes in art history, has served as coordinator of the Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies program, and is a founding member of the Museum Studies program. He earned his PhD at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Lucchesi’s dissertation focused on artist Romaine Brooks, and for his expertise he was consulting curator of an exhibition of her art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in 2016 and curator of another exhibition of her work at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington, D.C.) and Berkeley Art Museum (Univ. of California Berkeley) in 2000. He is a longtime contributor to the College Board’s Advanced Placement Art History curriculum and was recently appointed Chief Reader for AP Art History, beginning in July 2019. He is a founding member of Atlantika Collective in Washington, D.C.
Reappointment with Tenure and Promotion to Associate Professor:
Kevin Emerson (biology) joined the St. Mary’s College faculty in 2012. He teaches courses in biology, genetics, biostatistics, and genomics. He is the primary collaborator on a $1.5M grant from the National Institutes of Health studying neotropical malaria vectors and was a top reviewer in 2014 and 2015 for Molecular Ecology. Emerson earned his PhD from University of Oregon.
Amy Henderson ’89 (economics) joined the faculty of St. Mary’s College in 2011. Her teaching specialties are environmental and natural resource economics. Henderson’s recent publications include “Leveraging the Power of Experiential Learning to Achieve Higher-Order Proficiencies” and “Growing by Getting Their Hands Dirty: Meaningful Research Transforms Students.” Prior to joining the faculty, she worked as a senior economic analyst in the corporate sector. Henderson earned her PhD from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Reappointment with Tenure:
Katherine Pitcher (librarian) joined the faculty of St. Mary’s College in 2016. She is director of the library and media center, overseeing all aspects of library administration: planning, budgeting, personnel and facilities management, stewardship of collections and assessment of library services and resources. Pitcher earned her MLS from the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York.
