On Friday, July 6, George MacLeod, assistant professor of French, presented research as part of the “Rwanda After 1994” International Conference at St. Andrew’s University in Scotland. The conference was part of "Rwandan Stories of Change," a UK-based grant-funded initiative that aims “to document and compare psychological and social adjustment in survivors and perpetrators of the Genocide against the Tutsi.” MacLeod’s talk, entitled “Jacqueline Kalimunda’s Phantom Documentaries,” discussed Rwanda’s first-ever digital, multimedia film project which focuses on how individual Rwandans find love and social connection almost 25 years after the 1994 genocide. The conference drew scholars, artists, and activists from North America, Europe, and Africa, including Esther Mujawayo, a Tutsi genocide survivor, internationally-recognized author, and former winner of the United Nation’s Morris Abram award for Human Rights.
