The newest members of the St. Mary's County Library Board of Trustees are two known faces at St. Mary's College of Maryland — Tressa Setlak and Michael Dunn.

Setlak, director of public safety for the College and Dunn, director of Title IX compliance and training/Title IX coordinator, were nominated by the current board and appointed by the St. Mary’s County Commissioners in June.

Board members have five-year terms. Setlak will serve two, as she was appointed to a seat that had been vacated mid term. The two new members said they are proud to represent the College on the board and were unaware of one another’s nominations.

Setlak and Dunn agreed that the current board is clear-eyed on the mission and purpose of the library — to share resources and information to promote reading, inspire learning, and connect our community— and they are excited to be a part of supporting it.

“I thought that to be able to support the mission of the library and do what I can to help libraries thrive here in the community would be a great way to learn more about the community and give back,” Dunn said.

The two new board members see libraries as a valuable resource for the community, a place where people can go to obtain access to new and classic materials, learn new skills, access the internet and many other resources.

Setlak said when the position on the board came available she found it would be a good way to give back, an opportunity to help ensure libraries thrive and succeed as a continued resource for the community and are an “open and welcoming place for everybody.”

More information on the library board can be found on the St. Mary’s County Library website.
