St. Mary’s College of Maryland has been named among the Best Colleges for Anthropology Degree Programs by Schools.com. To determine this ranking, Schools.com gathered data profiles on more than 400 institutions across the country and ran them through a multi-point methodology. Based on the criteria, Schools.com ranked all 2-year and 4-year schools in the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) that reported data and calculated them on a 10-point scale. St. Mary’s College ranked 6th out of the top 10 schools.

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland anthropology curriculum focuses on four subfields: cultural anthropology and the study of historic and contemporary societies, archaeology and the study of material culture, biological anthropology, and linguistic anthropology. St. Mary’s College also offers an archaeology concentration.

Located at historic St. Mary’s City, St. Mary’s College’s anthropology department boasts hands-on field study right in its backyard. Students participate in archaeological digs throughout the local community, and can also study abroad. Many students work closely with faculty on individualized research projects.
