Four St. Mary’s College students – Nick Conroy ’18, Conner Dorbin ’18, Carl Freeman ’19 and Cecelia Marquez’18 – participated in a photography workshop led by acclaimed photographer Anne-Stine Johnsbråten, as part of advanced photography course during the 2017 fall semester. Their photography projects, which begin in the workshop, have been selected to be exhibited alongside works by young emerging Norwegian photography artists in Fotogalleriet Oslo, Norway.
Opening May 3, 2018, the exhibition, titled “Mirror/Mirror,” features a series of photographs whereby each artist reflects critically upon their everyday lives. With admirable creativity and honesty, the artists explored themes from family tensions to banality to depression – all issues that are hard to verbalize and communicate.
Fotogalleriet is one of the most well-respected fine art galleries in Scandinavia, which focuses on showing contemporary photography works. It also organizes the renowned Nordic Dummy Photography Book Award.
The exhibition is organized by Johnsbråten and Annika Hagstrøm, with the support of the Norwegian Culture Council. Anne-Stine Johnsbråten was an artist-in-residence at St. Mary’s College in 2017. The Artist House program is organized by the art and art history department and co-sponsored by WGSX and Asian studies.
