Biography

Dr. Sharvani Mahadevaraju's research focus on the molecular mechanisms behind sex determination, dimorphic gonad development (ovaries and testes), and germ cell differentiation. She utilizes Drosophila (fruit flies) as a model system, as studying these fundamental processes in flies helps uncover mechanisms that are conserved across species, including humans. Through a combination of molecular biology, genetics, and genomics, Dr. Mahadevaraju has revealed dimorphic differences at even the single-cell level. Her ongoing research aims to further elucidate the molecular drivers of sexually dimorphic gonad and germ line development.
