Sharvani Mahadevaraju

Visiting Assistant Professor

Sharvani

Biography

Dr. Sharvani Mahadevaraju's research focus on the molecular mechanisms behind sex determination, dimorphic gonad development (ovaries and testes), and germ cell differentiation. She utilizes Drosophila (fruit flies) as a model system, as studying these fundamental processes in flies helps uncover mechanisms that are conserved across species, including humans. Through a combination of molecular biology, genetics, and genomics, Dr. Mahadevaraju has revealed dimorphic differences at even the single-cell level. Her ongoing research aims to further elucidate the molecular drivers of sexually dimorphic gonad and germ line development. In addition to her research, Sharvani is deeply committed to inspiring young minds, helping them grasp biological concepts, and encouraging them to discover their own passions.
