Biography

Lamont Downs serves as the Academic Advisor for Equity Programming and Interim Coordinator for the Sum primus and Lander’s Scholar program.  He arrived on Campus November 4, 2024.  In his role as the Academic Advisor, he provides one on one coaching, and group academic advising for Sum primus, Lander’s and DeSousa Brent Scholars. As the Interim Coordinator of Sum primus and Landers, some of his responsibilities consist of providing mentorship and support through one-on-one advising, plan, develop, and implement academic, social and campus wide programs.   

 Lamont has over 7 years of experience working in Higher Education.  He served as a Director of Leadership and Coordinator of Multicultural Student Services at Geneva College (Beaver Falls, PA).  In 2015, he accepted a role as a Campus Minister at Kent State University working with Division 1 Student Athletes (Primarily football players).  After 3 years at Kent State University, Lamont accepted a role as an Associate Director of Multicultural Development at the University of Akron. He served as an Academic Advisor and oversaw the African American Male Learning Community.

               In January of 2019, Lamont along with his wife (Kathy Kinzer-Downs) and two sons (Marcus 10, and Xavier,8) relocated to Maryland. He is a native of New Brunswick, NJ and received an Associates in Liberal Arts Sociology from Middlesex County College (Edison, NJ) Bachelors of Arts in Student Ministry and Masters of Science in Organizational Leadership from Geneva College (Beaver Falls, PA). In his spare time, he enjoys working out at the gym, spending time with his family, and Counseling people.  He is a licensed Pastoral Counselor through the National Christian Counselor’s Association and currently in the process of going back to school to work on a second master’s in Mental Health Counseling.
