Biography

Hailing from Maryland’s inner shores, Jason Ferris is a graduate of the Writers Institute at Susquehanna University, where he won the 2020 Juliet Gibson Memorial Award for Outstanding Student Writer in Fiction, the 2021 Erik Kirkland Memorial Prize for Creative Nonfiction, and the 2021 Gary and Elizabeth Fincke Outstanding Senior Portfolio Prize. He also has an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where he won the Truman Capote Fellowship and now holds the Jeffery & Kimberly Chapman Writing Fellowship. A fiction writer and essayist, his work has been nominated for the PEN/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize and been an honorable mention in the 2021 Carve Magazine Prose and Poetry Contest. He cares about the body, intimacy, cats, and his teaching, not necessarily in this order. His work has previously appeared in RiverCraft, Essay, and Carve Magazine.
