Biography

Fran Wilde’s first novel, Updraft (Tor, 2015), won a Nebula Award and the Compton Crook Award. Cloudbound and Horizon completed the trilogy in 2017. Her debut middle-grade novel Riverland (Abrams, 2018) won a Nebula Award and was named an NPR Best Book of 2019. Middle-grade novel The Ship of Stolen Words was published in 2021. Wilde’s short work has appeared in publications including Asimov’s, Tor.com, Uncanny Magazine, and multiple years’ best collections, as well as internationally in Germany, China, Israel, Japan, Australia, and elsewhere. Her nonfiction has appeared in The Washington Post, The New York Times, and NPR. The managing editor of The Sunday Morning Transport, Wilde holds an MFA in poetry and an MA in information architecture and interaction design. She is represented by Andrea Somberg at Harvey Klinger, Literary, and teaches for Vermont College of Fine Arts WFCYA MFA and in the English Department at Saint Mary’s College of Maryland.
