David M. Smith

Biography

David has a Master of Fine Arts in Technical Direction and Scenic Design from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, and is an alumnus of St. Mary’s College of Maryland. David has worked as a set designer, lighting designer, and technical director in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, DC, including at the Bat Theatre Co. in New York, Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia, and the National Opera in Washington, DC. Recently, David’s work in lighting design has been seen in the Conservatory at MGM National Harbor and for both TedX MidAtlantic and TedX Bethesda. Since 2006, David has been the resident technical director and lighting designer for Patricia Sitar Center in Washington, DC for their summer musical series. He has also spent five summers as the technical director and lighting designer for the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company. David has guest lectured at Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland and currently serves on the board for Transformation Theatre Company.
