Assistant Professor of Physics
Biography
Anish Agashe is a theoretical physicist interested in gravitation, cosmology, and relativistic astrophysics. His research focuses on classical aspects of gravity, particularly in the framework of general relativity. He is also interested in modified/alternate theories of gravity and selected topics in cosmology. His research students work very closely with him on various projects in these topics and beyond.
Dr. Agashe teaches courses in both physics and astrophysics at all levels -- from astronomy for non-science students to mechanics and astrophysics for advanced physics students. In spring 2024, he offered a unique undergraduate course on general relativity which turned out to be a student favourite.
He was born in a small town called Miraj in the western state of Maharashtra, India. He completed his bachelor's and master's degrees in India and then moved to USA in 2017 for pursuing a doctoral degree. He joined St. Mary's College of Maryland in the Fall of 2022.
