NASA New York Space Grant Summer 2026 Rotational Internship

🚀The NASA New York Space Grant Consortium (NYSG) at Cornell University is pleased to offer a 10-week rotational summer internship for an undergraduate student interested in exploring STEM career pathways through experiences in industry, informal science education, and research. 

The selected intern will: 

  • Gain hands-on experience in both a professional industry setting and a science museum environment, developing technical, communication, and workplace skills. 
  • Support industry-based projects through research, data collection, observation, and problem-solving related to real-world STEM applications. 
  • Assist with science museum programming, exhibits, and educational activities designed to engage K–12 students, families, and the broader public. 
  • Help translate technical or scientific concepts into accessible, engaging content for diverse audiences. 
  • Participate in outreach events, demonstrations, and public-facing activities that promote STEM awareness and career exploration. 
  • Design, prototype, test, and refine components of a weather data collection activity for the Sciencenter makerspace. 
  • Work with mentors across partner sites to develop a final project and presentation.
  •  Build professional skills in teamwork, project management, public communication, and cross-sector collaboration. 
  • Explore a range of STEM career pathways while developing a professional network across academia, industry, and informal science education. 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Current undergraduate student 
  • Authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the internship 
  • Due to NASA requirements, all applicants are required to be US citizens 
  • Available to participate in person in Ithaca, NY for the full internship period

Additional Notes: 

  • Formal technical skills are not expected, particularly for early undergraduate students. 
  • We are especially interested in students who show potential, curiosity, adaptability, and a strong desire to grow. 
  • Experience with making, tinkering, coding, data collection, STEM outreach, design, or working with youth is welcome, but not required.

Compensation and Dates 

Stipend: $8,200 

Start Date: June 1, 2026 

End Date: August 7, 2026 

Location: Ithaca, NY
