St. Mary's College of Maryland Performing Arts Department - Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies Program is proud to present Thresholds: Short Plays About Migration, Diaspora, and Border Crossing

These ten-minute plays, written by SMCM students in a Performing Arts Department Playwriting class in Fall 2025, explore experiences of migration, diaspora, and border-crossing. The playwrights collaborated with students and faculty across campus who were engaged in research on this subject and built characters, situations, and stories based on the research, writing, or experiences of people in our own campus community.

The plays and their authors, in order of performance, are:

Cafeteria Allies by Lizzy Wood

Over the Phone by Hailey Castañera-Bartoszek

Looking Over Philly by Zachary Emerson

Powerlines by Dutch Torreyson

O&W's by Ariel Stevenson

Around the Corner by Gabby Simmonds and Emily S.

The Big Apple by Allie Wickline

When the Tongue Forgets by Katja Indžić

Performances are April 23-25 at 8:00 PM and April 26 at 2:00 PM in the Bruce Davis Theater, Montgomery Hall Fine Arts Center
