Volunteers are needed for the upcoming St. Mary's County Public Schools (SMCPS) Reality Fair on Thursday, February 26th!

The Reality Fair is an interactive financial literacy experience designed to help students understand real-world budgeting, career planning, and the true cost of living. Students will be assigned a career and salary, then visit various stations (housing, transportation, insurance, food, childcare, and more) to make financial decisions based on their monthly income.

We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to staff event stations and guide students through the budgeting process. No financial expertise is required — just a willingness to engage with students, ask thoughtful questions, and help them think critically about their choices.

Volunteer Responsibilities Include:

  • Managing a designated budgeting station
  • Explaining monthly expenses associated with your station
  • Encouraging students to stay within budget
  • Helping create a supportive, engaging learning environment

This is a meaningful opportunity to:

  • Support local students as they build real-world financial skills
  • Connect with the community
  • Make a direct impact in preparing young people for life after high school

📍Where: Dr. James Forrest Career and Technology Center

📅When: Thursday, February 26th, 8:00AM - 12:15PM

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact cmmarino@smcps.org for additional details and registration information. Link: volunteer sign-up.

We hope you’ll join us in making this hands-on learning experience a success!
