Update to Campus Weather Status posted Wednesday, Jan. 28, 6 p.m. (www.smcm.edu/snow): Our primary concern remains the safe operation of campus while continuing to provide for the academic, physical and mental well-being of our students, faculty and staff.

As previously announced, the campus will be open for virtual classes, necessary and time-sensitive administrative and operational functions and remote work on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 29 & 30. What this means:

Essential employees are expected to report at their designated times.

Students and faculty will revert to virtual classes as previously instructed by Academic Affairs; see www.smcm.edu/remote for details.

Other staff determined to perform duties necessary for campus operations will report to campus as required by division vice presidents or department heads to perform time-sensitive and necessary duties to ensure continuity of operations. Other employees will work remotely as instructed by their department heads. See www.smcm.edu/snow for general guidance, and contact your department head for additional details.

The Physical Plant staff continues to clear walkways and parking lots; however, a number of areas are unable to be cleared due to cold temperatures. In addition, falling snow and ice from trees and rooftops remains a concern. Consequently, events and activities that cannot be conducted remotely are cancelled through Friday, Jan. 30.

Exempt, non-bargaining unit employees should shift to remote work where possible from Wednesday, Jan. 28, through Friday, Jan. 30, and depending on weather conditions emerging over the weekend, possibly on Monday, Feb. 2 as well. Vice presidents will provide guidance to supervisors within their divisions to determine appropriate remote work requirements for their staff.

Exempt bargaining unit staff are expected to perform work that can be accomplished remotely.

Non-exempt staff who perform work, for example, checking voicemails, routing emails and answering questions by telephone and online are to keep a log of work performed.  Employees in this category will receive overtime and accrue the administrative time used.
