Audience
Based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons, the Columbia-WHO Center for Global Mental Health is a multidisciplinary network dedicated to advancing the identification, assessment, and treatment of mental, neurological, and substance use disorders worldwide. In partnership with global colleagues, our Center develops population-level mental health assessment methods, conducts applied research to address the global mental health treatment gap, and disseminates evidence-based programs with real-world impact. Our work draws from psychiatry, psychology, epidemiology, social work, and medical anthropology.
Chartered in 2015 as the WHO Collaborating Center for Capacity Building and Training in Global Mental Health, we offer opportunities that build capacity for advocacy, research, and service delivery across all levels of professional development. The Undergraduate Summer Internship Program is designed specifically for those at the earliest stage of their careers.
About the Internship Program:
Our eight-week Summer Internship Program supports intellectually curious undergraduate students as they:
- Contribute to innovative global mental health research projects led by Columbia University and international faculty
- Participate in didactic sessions, career development seminars, and professional skill-building workshops
- Network with leading experts across health and research fields
- Build meaningful relationships with peers and mentors
Eligibility:
Internship positions are competitive and open to rising seniors (students in the penultimate year of their undergraduate degree).
Applicants from all majors are welcome. Previous cohorts have included students pursuing interests in policy, gender studies, medicine, and more.
Program Format:
The 2026 program will be fully virtual, with no travel required.
