Join us for another Natural Science and Mathematics Colloquium talk of the fall semester!
Wednesday, October 8th, 2025
Schaefer Hall 106 @ 4:45 p.m.
Dr. Prairie Wentworth-Nice is a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in the Math Department at Johns Hopkins University.
Previously, she completed my PhD in mathematics at Cornell University. Her thesis, Finite Groups, Polymatroids, and Error Correcting Codes, was advised by Ed Swartz. Before grad school, she attended Swarthmore College where she received a BA with high honors in math and physics.
Prairie is especially excited about teaching undergraduates at the start of their mathematical journey and in learning more about how to be an effective instructor and train effective instructors. In addition, she care deeply about making her classroom and math communities places where everyone feels supported and has the resources and structures they need to succeed. She has been particularly involved in groups supporting gender minorities in mathematics. As an undergrad, Prairie was an officer for Swarthmore's Women+ In Math/Stat group (now GeMs); in grad school, she held a variety of positions in Cornell's chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM).
