Book cover of "Kin: Rooted in Hope" by Carole Boston Weatherford with art by Jeffery Boston Weatherford, featuring an illustrated portrait of a woman against a purple background with tree branches.

The Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (OCOE) is pleased to offer a limited number of complimentary copies of this year's One Maryland One Book selection: Kin: Rooted in Hope, written by Carole Boston Weatherford with artwork by Jeffrey Boston Weatherford.

Published in 2024, Kin is a remarkable blend of art, history, and personal genealogy. In exploring their family tree, the authors discovered ancestors among the founders of Maryland. The book's hybrid form—part poetry, part visual narrative—offers a profound reflection on family, heritage, and history. Through poems and illustrations, Carole and Jeffrey trace their lineage and illuminate the world their kin inhabited: the Chesapeake Bay, plantation life, and the legacies of Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and more.

Free copies are available at OCOE's office in Daugherty-Palmer Commons (DPC). We invite you to stop by and pick up your copy while supplies last.
