Jessie Cortez graduated with a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition from Texas A&M University in 2021. Her research interests include composition pedagogy as well as medical and legal rhetoric. Currently a lecturer teaching professional writing in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Texas A&M, Jessie's research and teaching interests include technical communication, science communication, the rhetoric of science, and technology studies. Jessie has also garnered academic awards, including the Graduate Diversity Excellence Fellowship from Texas A&M and the J. Murrey Atkins Library Graduate Student Award from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Jessie has also published a collaborative article titled "Wikipedia as Editorial Microcosm: Stalled Wikipedia Articles and the Teaching of Applied Comprehensive Editing”  in the journal Kairos: A Journal of Rhetoric, Technology, and Pedagogy.
