Rapid transformations are underway in our coastal ecosystems. Ongoing human pressures, shifts in nutrient inputs, and the repercussions of climate change are reshaping the functionality and provision of vital ecosystem services. Operating across diverse spatial and temporal scales, these concurrent drivers unveil intricate interactions and feedbacks. Our team conducted extensive studies in estuaries, shallow bays, and coastal ponds in SE New England and beyond, uncovering unexpected ecosystem responses influenced by intertwined changes in nutrient inputs and climate. Over recent decades, these responses carry far-reaching consequences for ecosystems. The implications of our findings extend to effective ecosystem management, underscoring the necessity for proactive strategies in navigating dynamic environmental shifts.
