Advocating for Cleaner Air with Community Partners in Washington, DC

Dr. Shizuka Hsieh

Trinity Washington University

Wednesday, April 5, 2023

4:45 – Schaefer Hall 106

The Clear Air Act has dramatically improved air quality across the country, but inequities in environmental pollution persist. In Washington DC, nearly 100,000 residents live in areas zoned for industrial activities and are disproportionally exposed to associated air pollutants, from diesel truck fumes and concrete batching dust to specialty chemicals. These neighborhoods are predominantly African American, presenting a need for environmental justice. Case studies from air quality monitoring campaigns with community members in DC carry lessons about successful advocacy and how policy can be changed to better protect human health.

This event is free and open to the public. It is meant for a general audience. If you are an instructor, please announce it to your students
