Fonda, an actress, philanthropist, and undisputed queen of exercise videos, is probably best known for her outspoken political activism against war and advocacy of women’s rights. In the 70’s she rallied against the Vietnam War, earning her the name Hanoi Jane. Her opposition made her a polarizing figure for most Americans and as a result, she was blacklisted in Hollywood for many years.
In addition to her anti-war campaigns, she fought for civil rights, women’s rights and even pushed to have a signer for deaf people at an awards ceremony. When the network declined, Jane signed her whole speech for those watching.
Now 83 years old, Fonda continues to fight for just causes, now focusing on environmental issues and climate change. She did not hesitate to criticize the Canadian Prime Minister for many of his actions related to the Paris Climate Agreement. Her activism resulted in multiple arrests during the past few years while protesting climate change and other environmental causes.
