Meet Your St. Mary’s Community. Learn Your Resources. Choose Your Path.
January Orientation is your next step in joining the St. Mary’s community. The programs offered are designed to address your most immediate needs. They will prepare you for your learning experience and encourage you to think about what will make your time here a success beyond the first day of classes.
Sunday, January 19
10:00am-1:00pm Residential Check-In and Move-In | Residence Halls
Come to your assigned residence hall to begin the move-in process. After, make your way to the Office of Information Technology to get your Student ID and the Campus Center for your mailbox key.
10:00am-1:00pm Commuter Student Check-in | Leadership Lab, Campus Center
Come to the Leadership Lab in the Campus Center to begin the check-in process.
11:00am-12:45pm Brunch | Great Room, Campus Center
Take a break before the program begins and enjoy brunch in the Great Room. Student meal plan or $15.10 per person.
1:15pm Welcome and Success at St. Mary’s College Panel | Daugherty-Palmer Commons (DPC)
Get to know the Seahawk community with your fellow new students and families. Learn about what January Orientation has to offer and what it means to be a part of the St. Mary’s College community. Students and families will hear from campus community members as they share their experience and advice for incoming St. Mary’s College. This will be an opportunity to ask questions about the St. Mary’s student experience and resources available for student success. Parents and Families will be given time to say goodbye at the end of this session before the program continues with the student-only portion.
3:00pm Career Preparation | Glendening Annex
Hear from the Director of the Career Development Center about howhSMCM’s comprehensive career programming will prepare you for life during and after St. Mary’s.
3:30pm Title IX & Your Rights | Glendening Annex
Learn about our community's values and expectations around Title IX. How we engage in relationships and communicate with one another? Get essential information about campus policies and resources.
4:15 pm Navigating Campus as a New Student | Around Campus
Our Orientation Team (OTeam) will help you find your classroom locations for the semester. You’ll get to know where integral offices are on campus--where you will meet the staff who can support your success here at St. Mary’s!
5:00 pm Dinner | Great Room, Campus Center,
Enjoy our Great Room with students on our OTeam. They love to talk about all things student & St. Mary’s!
6:00pm Commuter Student Meeting | Leadership Lab, Campus Center
Learn about the benefits of and resources for being a commuter. Visit the commuter kitchen and lounge and have your questions answered by a fellow student.
6:00pm Residence Hall Meeting | DPC
Meet your Residence Hall Coordinators, become familiar with the ins and outs of living on campus, and learn the expectations, policies, and processes of Residence Life.
7:00pm Movies ‘n Snacks in Cole Cinema | Cole Cinema, Campus Center
After a day full of information overload, unwind with OTeam and your fellow new students. Join us at Cole Cinema for snacks and movies!
Monday, January 20
7:00-8:00 am Breakfast | Great Room Nook, Campus Center
Start your morning off right and join our OTeam with a hot breakfast in the Great Room before heading out to complete our MLK Day Service Project.
9:00 am The St. Mary’s Way in Action! | Meet at the Leadership Lab, Campus Center
Contribute to the St. Mary’s spirit of giving and service by participating in the nationwide MLK Day of Service alongside over 100,000 Americans.
12:30pm Lunch | Great Room, Campus Center
Follow-up all your hard work with a break for lunch with our OTeam.
1:30pm DiversitySMCM | DPC
This mandatory campus-wide online and in-person training will (in part) help to create a strong sense of community in which all members thrive and are successful.
3:00pm Emergency Preparedness Training | DPC
This 90-minute emergency preparedness training session will address safety information
specific to our campus, a review of the CampusShield application, and audience question and answer sessions.
5:00pm Dinner | Great Room, Campus Center
Finish off the weekend with friends, food, and our OTeam at dinner.
6:00pm Dessert Reception and President’s Book Signing | Blackistone Room, Anne Arundel
All new students are given the opportunity to sign the President’s Book - a tradition that
dates back to the 1970s.
