Hello everyone!

The Intro to Chemical Literature Class has invited Dr. Leah Dodson to talk about “Gas phase studies of the organometallic ions formed from ion-molecule reactions!” It is on Friday, November 15 at 3:30pm in Schaefer Hall 106 and free intended for the general public, which includes you, too.

Come learn about science in organometallic molecules’ interactions and their bonds! Dr. Leah Dodson is an assistant professor at the University of Maryland in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Program. Her research focuses on the interactions of metal and metal oxides with CO2 and their relevance to heterogeneous catalysis and carbon sequestration. She will discuss the fundamentals of the types of bonds that form between a CO2 molecule and a metal center. She conducts experiments with cryogenics, low-temperature techniques, and quantum chemical computations.

This student-invited speaker will also introduce her new research that is relevant to circumstellar and planetary environments! Her new research group has astrochemical goals that uses similar low-temperature techniques as her prior work, which also includes organometallics and photodissociation spectroscopy!

Feel free to email or reach out to someone in the Introduction to Chemical Literature Class if you have questions. We cannot wait to see you all at the talk!

Best,

The Intro to Chemical Literature Class, Fall of 2019
