Professor of Biology
Biography
Jordan Price’s research combines detailed studies of animals in the field with molecular analyses in the lab to test hypotheses about the evolution of animal communication and behavior, with a particular focus on birds. Recent projects have included (1) phylogenetic studies looking into the evolutionary histories of behaviors and morphologies across taxa and (2) studies of individual songbird species to investigate the evolutionary mechanisms behind the elaborate sounds and colors that these species exhibit today. Whenever possible these studies involve undergraduate students. Before joining the faculty at St. Mary’s College in 2002, Dr. Price received a B.Sc.H. in biology and B.A. in psychology from Queen’s University, completed his Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Minnesota.
