Artist Talk: Andrea Packard
Andrea Packard earned a B.A. in English and Art History from Swarthmore College, a Certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and an M.F.A. from American University. She has exhibited her work in more than 70 exhibitions, including solo exhibitions at Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas; The Painting Center in New York City; the Center for Emerging Visual Artists in Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia International Airport. Her numerous awards include residencies at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, County Mayo, Ireland; the Brandywine Workshop and Archives, Philadelphia; the Joseph and Anni Albers Foundation, and the Vermont Studio Center. Other awards include a teaching-artist residency at the Hudson River Museum, New York; a fellowship at the Center for Emerging Visual Artists, and the Cresson Traveling Scholarship.
Packard has cultivated inspiration, collaboration, and community through curating more than 150 exhibitions for other artists, and serving as a lecturer and instructor at diverse institutions, including Haverford College, the National Academy, New York, and Dartmouth College. From 1995 until Spring 2026, she served as the inaugural director of the List Gallery at Swarthmore College. During the past three years, she also served as the inaugural director of Swarthmore’s permanent collection.
