Marine Science & Technology Leadership in Turbulent Times

Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet, Ph.D., USN (Ret.) to Discuss “Marine Science & Technology Leadership in Turbulent Times” at St. Mary’s College

St. Mary’s City, Md. Sept. 10, 2026 - The Patuxent Partnership and the Steny H. Hoyer Center for the Study of Democracy at St. Mary’s College of Maryland will present an evening with Rear Admiral. Tim Gallaudet, Ph.D., USN (Ret.), on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 5-7 p.m. at the College’s Nancy R. and Norton T.  Dodge Performing Arts Center.

Gallaudet, former acting administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and former oceanographer of the Navy, will discuss themes from his book, “Holding Fast in Heavy Seas: Leadership for Turbulent Times.”

A retired rear admiral with 35 years of service in the U.S. Navy, Gallaudet has held leadership roles spanning national security, ocean science and environmental policy. His career includes serving as commander of the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, oceanographer of the Navy and deputy administrator of NOAA.

“Holding Fast in Heavy Seas” draws upon Gallaudet’s experiences in military and civilian leadership and explores lessons in leading organizations through uncertainty, change and challenging circumstances.

The program will take place from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Dodge Performing Arts Center, followed by a book signing and reception from 6:30-7 p.m. in the lobby.

The event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is encouraged, and walk-ins are welcome.
