June: Professional Wellness Month & Women's Health Awareness

June is Professional Wellness Month, a time to recognize the importance of mental, emotional, physical, and social well-being. The observance encourages healthy habits, self-care, strong communication, and meaningful connections with colleagues, friends, family, and the broader community.

June is also an opportunity to focus on women's health. Since 2004, the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women® initiative has worked to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease—the leading cause of death among women—and promote heart-healthy lifestyles through education, advocacy, and prevention.

One of the best ways to protect your health is through regular preventive care. The following screenings can help detect potential health concerns early, when treatment is often most effective:

  • Blood Pressure Screening: Helps identify high blood pressure, a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke.
  • Cholesterol Screening: Measures cholesterol and triglyceride levels to assess cardiovascular risk.
  • Cervical Cancer Screening: Pap tests and/or HPV testing can detect cervical cancer and precancerous changes early.
  • Mammograms: Recommended for breast cancer screening beginning at age 40 for many women at average risk.
  • Blood Glucose Screening: Helps detect prediabetes and type 2 diabetes before complications develop.
  • Colorectal Cancer Screening: Screening beginning at age 45 can detect colorectal cancer and precancerous polyps.

Screening recommendations vary based on age, personal and family health history, and other risk factors. Talk with your healthcare provider about the preventive screenings that are right for you.
