Assistant Research & Instruction Librarian Haley Galloway presented a storytelling session at the 2025 STEM Librarians Collaborative Conference, a professional gathering focused on community-driven professional development and networking for STEM librarians. The annual conference emphasizes evolving practices in science librarianship through collegial exchange and reflective practices. Her presentation, titled “Out of My Field, In My Lane: Reflections on Mentoring Undergraduate Research as a First-Year STEM Librarian,” examined her mentorship role with SMCM’s St. Mary's Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program. Drawing on her experience in mentoring, Haley reflected on supporting research outside her disciplinary background by centering information literacy, research process and project design. The session highlighted early-career growth, interdisciplinary collaboration, and early-career librarian-faculty mentorship.
