Eight St. Mary’s College students presented at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference for Phi Alpha Theta, the History National Honor Society in April. Courtney Anderson '24, Emma Bourne '24, Emma Carroll '24, Niamh Connell '24, Thea Hegwood '24, Chrissy Ringel '24, Mortimer Shiflett '27 and Argyrios Tasikas '24 each presented papers on their own research. Topics spanned political, cultural, religious, and oral histories of Europe, Asia, and the Americas from the 12th-21st centuries. SMCM was recognized for the group's enthusiasm and commitment to the study of history, and represented the largest group of presenters at the conference in the region. Shiflett and Connell deserve special recognition as both of their papers won awards after being evaluated by a committee of history professors at Bowie State University. Shiflett won first place in the Comparative Histories category and Connell won third place for the American History category.
