Associate Professor of Chemistry Troy Townsend '07 recently had an article published in the Journal of ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces titled “Room Temperature Postannealing Reduction via Aqueous Sodium Borohydride and Composition Optimization of Fully Solution Processed Indium Tin Oxide Films.”

Townsend and his students are working on ink-jet printing nanocrystal electronic materials. In the laboratory at SMCM, they discovered that a transparent conductive material that is conventionally prepared in a furnace under hydrogen gas, can also be prepared in solution with a reducing agent. This innovation addresses the discrepancy between the versatility of printing and the limitation of furnace processing, which could have implications for industrial development of printed electronics. Authors from the NSWC Indian Head Division also contributed valuable data to this report. Those interested in reading the full paper can visit https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acsami.2c01092
