Pamela Mertz, professor of biochemistry, was one of the organizers and moderators for a conference hosted by ASBMB Student Chapters, “Constructing Narratives for Teaching Science,” held virtually on February 6.   This conference featured a keynote speaker, Jay Hosler, a cartoonist and biologist at Juniata College who presented “There’s Science in my Story: Constructing Narratives for Teaching Science,” as well as presentations from submitted abstracts and networking sessions on specific topics.  This was the first virtual ASBMB Catalyst Conversation, showcasing talks on teaching strategies/projects that are works in progress as a means to generate ideas and discussion.   For this Catalyst Conversation, participants were encouraged to talk about how their response to the pandemic will inform their teaching moving forward, when more faculty are back in the classroom face-to-face with students.
