St. Mary’s College of Maryland has been named among the Best Colleges for English Degree Programs by Schools.com. To determine this ranking, Schools.com gathered data profiles on more than 400 institutions across the country and ran them through a multi-point methodology. Based on the criteria, Schools.com ranked all 2-year and 4-year schools in the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) that reported data and calculated them on a 10-point scale. St. Mary’s College ranked 5th out of the top 10 schools for English degree programs.
The St. Mary’s College English department believes that a student benefits most from the integration of literature and creative writing. Students who are English majors will read a broad historical and cultural range of literatures and develop a variety of writing skills. The curriculum helps students learn how to write clearly, effectively, perceptively, and creatively, and gain insight into the history and culture of English-language literature.
