Biography

Dr. Shalini Ganguly is a theoretical and computational astrophysicist. She completed her bachelor's and master's degrees in Physics in India, before moving to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA, to pursue a PhD in Astronomy. Following this, she was employed as a postdoctoral research associate positions at University of North Texas (Denton), and University of Nevada Las Vegas. She joined St. Mary's College of Maryland as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Physics in Fall 2024. Currently, Dr. Ganguly is continuing as a Lecturer of Physics at SMCM.

Dr. Ganguly has explored topics such as Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs), Binary star systems (primarily low-mass X-ray binaries or LMXBs), Galaxy clusters and the intracluster medium, and Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs). She is also generally interested in understanding the physics of gas dynamics in astrophysical systems by means of numerical simulations. Dr. Ganguly is enthusiastic about directing research efforts by undergraduate students on such topics as well.
