Biography

Dr. Shalini Ganguly is a theoretical/computational astrophysicist. After receiving her bachelor's and master's degrees in Physics from India, she moved to the United States to pursue a PhD in Astronomy from University of Nevada Las Vegas. She completed her PhD in 2022, and was hired as a postdoctoral research associate at University of North Texas (Denton), and University of Nevada Las Vegas. She joined St. Mary's College of Maryland as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Physics in Fall 2024.

Dr. Ganguly has explored topics such as Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs), Binary star systems (primarily low-mass X-ray binaries or LMXBs), Galaxy clusters and the intracluster medium and Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs). She is also generally interested in understanding the physics of gas dynamics in astrophysical systems by means of numerical simulations.
