Hometown

Cecelia Layfield '28 is always after the story. After joining the staff of The Point News in her first year on campus, she became the arts and entertainment editor. Fittingly, she sought and obtained a summer internship with Baltimore Magazine, and after working with the College's Center for Career & Professional Development, was also able to earn course credit and obtain funding through their Signature Honors Internship Program (SHIP).
This summer, Layfield published four online articles for the magazine and authored an article for their October print issue. This allowed her to learn the different requirements for web editions versus print editions (e.g., length, tone, audience). She also conducted extensive fact-checking for the magazine, which provided her with the opportunity to speak with numerous business owners, doctors, and community members to ensure that Baltimore Magazine published accurate information. In addition, she attended Baltimore Magazine events, which served as opportunities for networking (and fun!).
