Fatma Dalgar

Biography

Fatma Daglar is the principal oboist of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Maryland Symphony Orchestra. She also held the position of Acting Assistant Principal Oboe with the Louisville Orchestra during their 2003 - 04 season. She works actively as a freelance musician: she has performed on oboe and English horn with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, National Philharmonic Orchestra, Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Concert Artists of Baltimore, Washington Concert Opera Orchestra, WolfTrap Opera Orchestra, Baltimore Opera Orchestra, Post-Classical Ensemble, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, and Alexandria Symphony Orchestra. She has performed Richard Strauss' Oboe Concerto and Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, and Mozart's Oboe Concerto with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, Marcello's Oboe Concerto with the Chesapeake Orchestra, and Nicholas Maw's Oboe Concerto with the Peabody Camerata. During her studies and her professional career, Ms. Daglar has been the recipient of Ruth Blaustein Rosenberg Orchestral Scholarship, the Fannie Mae Foundation Sponsorship and several Career Development Grants from the Peabody Institute. She has toured Japan with the Eastwinds Quintet in 1995, participated in a tour of the United States with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra in 1997 and recently played concerts in China with the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra. Fatma Daglar is an enthusiastic performer of early music. She has been playing the baroque oboe since she first attended Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute as a scholarship student. She has performed with the Washington Bach Consort, AmaDeus Ensemble, Brandywine Baroque, Modern Musick, Opera Vivente, and recently appeared and recorded with the Bach Sinfonia. By music critics of the Washington Post, the Baltimore Sun, and the Annapolis Capital, her playing has been described as such: "a dexterous technician with attractive tone and a nifty sense of phrasing", "a concerto performance of virtuoso caliber, enthusiastically received", "touching, bittersweet tone", "terrific", "well-rounded tone with a beautiful vibrato", "extraordinary playing". She has been featured on WETA, WBJC, and Voice of America Radio. Fatma Daglar attended the Robert College High School of Istanbul and the Istanbul Conservatory of Music, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Music. She also holds a Master's Degree and a Graduate Performance Diploma in Oboe Performance from the Peabody Conservatory, where she studied with Sara Watkins. She also teaches at Towson University, University of Maryland at Baltimore County, and the Peabody Preparatory.
