Biography
Richard W. 'Rick' Loheed was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1954. His family subsequently moved to Middleboro, Massachusetts where they lived until 1961 when they moved to West Lafayette, Indiana. As a young man he learned to sail on Cape Cod. He Attended Purdue University and worked in the wind tunnels of the Zucrow Laboratories there, performing gas turbine research. Moving to Maryland in 1991 he began a career designing motion control systems for high performance vessels of varying types, from Surface Effect Ships (SES) to catamarans, planing monohulls, SWATH, and Hydrofoils. An avid sailor, he started working at the Waterfront in 2008, obtaining his Captain's license in 2014. He enjoys boating of all types- and loves to teach sailing.
