Alan Jamieson, associate professor of computer science, recently won $25,000 to be used toward students in the computer science program at St. Mary’s College of Maryland from the gas and convenience store Sheetz through its Time Back initiative where the company connects and gives back to customers.
“It’s a great honor and a fantastic surprise to be getting this gift. The $25,000 donation to the College is going to help many computer science students for many years get to the kinds of experiences and events that these students need to further their careers,” said Jamieson. “I have so much gratitude to Sheetz and their commitment to supporting their communities, and their willingness to support the computer science program at St. Mary’s College.”
Jamieson also received an additional $2,500 to feed his students, something he does occasionally when working late in the computer science lab with students. As a third gift, Sheetz gifted Jamieson and his wife, Lindsay Jamieson, also an associate professor of computer science at St. Mary’s College, with a trip to London to take a master class in tea making with the option to cash out and use the money for tea farming research.
