What can service in communities around the world teach us about community itself?
Please join us for the next SMCM Community Hour on Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 5:30–6:30 p.m. in Daugherty-Palmer Commons for a conversation about Peace Corps service, global citizenship and building community across cultures and borders.
We will be joined by returned Peace Corps volunteers and recent St. Mary’s College graduates who are preparing to serve around the world—from environmental and forestry programs to health, education and community development. Together, they will share their experiences and perspectives on service, the communities they have joined or are preparing to join, and what it means to build relationships across cultures and lived experiences.
The conversation is part of our yearlong exploration of the 2026–27 Essential Question, “What is community?”, and the St. Mary’s Athenaeum, our platform for intellectual engagement, scholarship and public dialogue.
